IS IT STRAIN OR PAIN - WHERE DOES VOCAL DAMAGE BEGIN?
Jul 30, 2021Since your voice is delicate and you only have one that can't just be exchanged for a new one if it gets damaged, it's important as a singer to know the difference between a strain that definitely happens sometimes when you challenge yourself, or if you're doing something that could potentially damage your voice.
Strain:
- you feel your muscles
- it gets better after some vocal rest
- your speaking voice still works
Pain:
- you specifically feel your vocal cords hurt
- vocal rest does not improve the voice
- your speaking voice is also affected
Avoid:
- breathiness
- unsupported loud singing anywhere in your vocal range
- shallow breathing
- unintended hoarseness
